Theo William Shisler 17th November 1999 |
This is a message from Geoffrey Shisler (Danny's Father), addressed to Danny and Niki.
It is the fervent hope of us all that when we depart this world, we will have made some positive contribution to it, and we all like to think that we are born for some purpose. Theo’s life was very short - merely seven months and the dreadful disabilities with which he was born, make us ask why the Almighty brought him onto the earth at all.
But I believe with all my heart that his short and tragic life was very significant, and indeed will have far-reaching consequences.
None of us could fail to be moved when we saw that beautiful little child. When we witnessed the care and love that his parents lavished on him, we were humbled into realising how we take for granted the good health and well-being of our own children and our own brothers and sisters.
On his family his influence has been profound. He taught you to be caring and unselfish and he brought out and helped you develop aspects of your nature that might otherwise never have been brought to the surface. He has made you what you are today and helped mould those characteristics that will carry you forward in strength to many great heights.
I am certain that you will achieve things in your lives that you would not have managed had you not had these few months with Theo. Not only that, but in the fullness of time, this is something that you will indeed come to see and fully appreciate yourselves. Your view of the world will be coloured by having had him, and I have no doubt, that he has taught you to put trivial matters into their true perspective.
It is certain that the world is, and will be a better place because of the influence that little Theo, with his kind, sweet and uncomplaining nature, had on everyone who knew him.
Danny and Nikki, you should know that the admiration of those people who love you, knows no bounds. The love and care that you lavished on him must surely have been an inspiration to so many people who have children like Theo. The problems of coping with a disabled child brought you into contact with many other families who have children with disabilities, and you have been able to give of your experience to help them cope too.
In his own way, he gave you much joy and happiness, and that, I promise, will last forever. Try not to think of what you've lost, but to be grateful for what you had.
In heaven, there are no incapacities. Every pure spirit is free to roam, and the purer the soul, the closer it is permitted to reach to the throne of the Almighty. Surely, there can be no purer spirit than Theo’s - one who never had a bad thought, who never uttered an unkind word, who never hurt another person by word or deed. He has now been released from the confines of his disabilities and I am sure is now at last, exhilarating in the freedom that he was denied on earth.
Like all pure and innocent individuals, he died with the kiss of Gd Himself. He was spared pain and suffering and quietly and peacefully left us to go to his eternal home.
We pray that the Almighty will bless you, that He will send His special blessings to Felix that he should gain in strength from day to day, and that you should have pleasure from Evie and Joey too and be granted the pleasure of watching them all develop into healthy, happy and successful people.
